Cups

Creating a cup comes with a lot of options, so let's dive into it.

To begin, select 'Create cup' from the menu. Alternatively (if you're already logged in), you can also go to 'My cups' and click the 'Create cup' button.

-Cup Name: Give your cup a name.
-Version: Select the season for which you want to create the cup.
-Clubs or National Teams: Choose whether you want to use clubs or national teams in your cup.
-Cup Type: Decide on the cup format, including options like round-robin (league), knockout elimination, or a combination of group and knockout stages.
-Match Engine: Select either the standard or beta match engine.
-Apply Home Advantage: Check this box if you want home advantage to apply to all home teams throughout the cup (except for the final).
-Private Cup: If you mark the cup as private, others will need a private URL to access it. You can obtain this URL by clicking the share button when you're in the cup. Public cups can be accessed directly through the URL, but only the owner can manage them.
-Additional Options (Dependent on Cup Type):
a) Round Robin: Specify the number of matches each team plays against each other.
b) Knockout Elimination: Define the number of matches in knockout rounds.
c) Group and Knockout (this format includes several options):
1. Number of matches each team plays in the group stage.
2. Number of matches in knockout rounds.
3. Group size (3 or 4).
4. Teams that advance from each group to the knockout stage.

Please note that if you select an incompatible number of teams for the cup, a knockout qualification round will be added before the group stage to reach a compatible team count.

That's it! You're all set to create your custom cup on Match Simulator, complete with your preferred settings and options
An account is necessary to ensure your cup creation data is securely saved. With an account, you have the convenience of returning to Match Simulator whenever you like, picking up right where you left off, or revisiting your cup simulations at any time.

This is one of the most frequently asked questions, so let's provide some context. Match Simulator is a passion project that stays online thanks to the small amount of revenue generated from ads on the site. These ads earn based on impressions—the more page views, the better. Since the majority of page views come from individual match simulations, adding an option to simulate multiple matches at once would significantly reduce ad revenue, making it difficult to sustain the project.

That said, we understand the appeal of such a feature. For the future, we’re considering a premium subscription where bulk match simulation could be one of the perks. Stay tuned!
The reason Match Simulator uses generic logos instead of real ones is simple: copyright. We can’t be certain whether we’re allowed to use official team logos, so to stay on the safe side, we’ve replaced them with generic versions. While we’re always exploring options to bring real logos back, we don’t want to take any legal risks.

As for user-uploaded logos, this presents both security risks and technical challenges. Allowing file uploads can be a serious security vulnerability, and managing storage for countless custom images is not something we're able to support. Because of these factors, we don’t plan to add this feature.

However, we have added customization options! You can personalize team logos with different colors, crest styles, and stripe patterns (vertical, horizontal, etc.). We may expand this in the future with more shapes and design options.
Occasionally, you might see "null" listed as a goal scorer or receiving a card. This is a known bug that happens in about 1 in 1,000 matches. We’re aware of the issue and plan to fix it, but since it’s rare and doesn’t significantly impact gameplay, it’s not our highest priority at the moment.

That said, if you notice any patterns or specific situations where this happens more often, feel free to report them—we always appreciate detailed feedback!
A career mode is planned, but it’s a big undertaking that requires many new features. Our ultimate goal is to create a career mode that you can play solo and compete against other users. However, our priority for now is to add other key features first. Career mode remains part of our long-term vision.
The current substitution system considers the score when making changes. For example, if a team is behind, there's a higher chance an attacker will replace a defender to push for a goal. When this happens, you can imagine the formation adjusting accordingly. This approach keeps substitutions more dynamic and varied.

That said, a substitution rework is planned. The current system still follows the old rule of three substitutions, while modern football allows up to five in three stoppages. This needs to be updated, and when we make these changes, we also plan to introduce an option for manual substitutions.
Yes, these formats will be added after the beta is finished (April 5). The reason for this delay is that we cannot build the functionality twice, as that would be too time-consuming and difficult to maintain. However, you can still simulate EURO 2024, as well as the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, using the corresponding event pages or cup presets.
There are two requirements for a customization pack to work. First, make sure your pack is activated. You can activate a pack when viewing it or by going to Customization Packs > My Packs.

Second, ensure that the season (version) of your customization pack matches the season of the cup or matches you're using it for. For example, a pack created for the 2023-24 season won’t work for a match in the 2024-25 season.
The system that allows customization of the player database is quite complex. To prevent duplicates—like a player appearing twice in a lineup—we don’t allow activation of a pack if it contains an edited player that is also modified in another active pack.

To resolve this, deactivate the other pack and then try activating your desired pack again.
No, this is not possible at the moment. If a player's rating or team changes and the pack is copied to a new season, it could unintentionally contain outdated data.

However, we do plan to introduce a feature that will allow you to copy all your created players. This is something we aim to add in the future.
We release a yearly update with new player data in late September or early October.
No, we currently do not have a winter update for player data. The main update is released annually in late September or early October.

That said, we plan to introduce a winter update in the future and may even explore the possibility of weekly updates.
No, we already have a large database of teams and nations. However, due to high demand, we added the option for users to create their own teams and nations—and even share them with others. This way, everyone can access a wider variety of teams without waiting for official additions.

For us, adding a new team or nation takes just as much time as it would for you, and we prefer to focus on further developing the website.

To use custom teams and nations, you need to create or import a customization pack. You can do this by going to Customization packs.
